Keto Sloppy Joes
Family favorite turned Trim Healthy Mama Friendly!
I don’t know about y’all, but my family and I LOVE sloppy joes! I remember being a young married girl, making sloppy joes from a dry seasoning packet (loaded with all the junk) and dishing it up on the cheapest white burger buns we could get.
We were “budget conscious”…
But, as time passed, I wanted to start making more things from scratch, including sloppy joes. In the beginning, I would make this recipe with tablespoons (TABLESPOONS people!!! NO!!!) of brown sugar and think nothing of it.
Once I came to the Trim Healthy Mama way of eating, I knew I needed to modify my recipe so we could still have the things we loved, but not destroy our blood sugar.
So that’s where this recipe comes in to play!

Sugar Free Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground meat of choice
- 1 medium onion diced
- ½ medium green bell pepper diced
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 13 oz tomato sauce
- 2 oz tomato paste
- 2 TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 TBSP apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- ½ cup water
- ½ tsp Penzey's BBQ of the Americas Seasoning
Instructions
- 1) In a large skillet, combine and cook thoroughly the meat, onion, green bell pepper, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- 2) Add the following ingredients to the skillet and mix in well: tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire, apple cider vinegar, mustard, water, and seasoning mix.
- 3) Put a lid on the skillet, turn the burner down to low, and let mixture simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring often.
- 4) Serve as desired: on sprouted bread (if using as an E), on a bed of mixed greens (as a FP!), or on any S bread.
