But wait, how much protein? How much fat? Did I go over my carbs?!?!
Everyone has different needs as it pertains to macronutrients (fat, protein, and carbohydrates). It’s easy to ask a variety of influencers what their macros are and decide to follow in lockstep with them. But the way one person eats may not be the way YOU need to eat.
Instead of guessing what your body requires, try using a Macro Calculator. I like Perfect Keto’s macro tool because it’s easy to follow and you get to customize the amount of protein and carbs you want to consume. The tool walks you through how to assess your body’s needs and can help you find targets for your macros.
Consider giving it a try and let me know how it goes. Find Perfect Keto’s Macro Calculator here.
Happy Calculating!

While fat is important, don’t forget about protein!
On a keto diet, we know carbs are supposed to be as low as we can possibly get them.
But there is often some misconceptions that if you eat more than 20% of your calories as protein, it’s no better than eating a glazed donut!
The body has this amazing ability to adapt. You were a glucose burner for the majority of your life leading up to the keto diet, but your body adapted to ketones for fuel.
Also, every time you went without a bolus of glucose through the night, your body was able to survive because it could make ketones from that stored fuel you have been carrying around.
But people are afraid of gluconeogensis… big scientific word for your liver converting protein to glucose if you eat “too much” protein.
I was even afraid of that in the beginning. It wasn’t a crippling fear, so there’s no need for concern. But I was mindful to not over do the protein at the start.
However, I dug a lot deeper and learned that my body NEEDED that protein! There’s absolutely no way for my body to generate protein. I can create glucose in my liver if I need glycogen and I can make ketones if I’m using fat for fuel.
But I can’t create protein molecules.
Using a Macro Calculator can really help you set guidelines.
More specifically, using the Perfect Keto Macro Tool, you can tailor your parameters to suit you specifically.
If you plugged in the same age, weight, height, etc for you and your hypothetical twin, you’d get the same macros. But you and your hypothetical twin are different humans. You each need different amounts of fat and protein.
So use tools like the macro tool and keep in mind that the macros it spits out are really more like guidelines rather than binding contracts.
